About

I am 31 years old and I’ve finally decided to take control of my life and improve it in every way that I can.

In October, I got hitched to the most amazing person.  Like many brides, I was able to shed some pounds and I think I looked pretty amazing on the big day.  Each day still is a challenge, and I still have a long way to go. While I don’t have the wedding to use as a goal any more, I’m using this blog as way to keep myself accountable and motivated each day.  I’ve committed to lose weight the healthy way, by eating the right things and good old-fashioned exercise. Some days are easier than others, but the blogging community has been a big help. I get ideas, recipes, workouts and support from people I don’t even know.

My husband, Brian, and started to run together last year, which in turn helps our dog, Shea Stadium, burn off some of her plentiful energy.  We completed the Pat Tillman run in April 2010, with my sister Jenny.  It was my first race ever and at 4.2 miles, the longest I had ever ran.  I didn’t run the whole thing, I walked when I needed to and we completed it in the hot, hot AZ sun.  It felt great to accomplish such a goal, but I’m determined to be able to finish a 5k without stopping.  I’m was hoping to participate in the Phoenix Rock ‘N Roll Marathon in January 2011, but wedding planning, honeymoons and holidays derailed me from my training plan. I still want to be able to run a half marathon this year, but I want to do it the correct way. Train for 5ks and move up from there.

Before turning to running, I skated with the Arizona Derby Dames in the amazing sport of roller derby. I skated 4 years with the league and I am now currently retired.  I’m convinced that I’m the only person that managed to gain weight while participating in such an intense sport.

I’ve always leaned towards the “chubby” side of the spectrum, but in college I definitely packed on the pounds.  A few years after I had graduated, my roommate and I committed to losing weight and started walking everyday.  She was such an amazing motivator and I lost a good amount of weight.  I swore up and down that I would never gain the weight back.

And then I found my love.  I gained everything back and then some.  It’s hard to believe that I just let myself go, I’m disappointed with myself and my lack of will power.  But I’ve decided to not dwell on the past and dedicate myself to the present.

So this is my weight loss journey, my running journey, my healthy living journey.  I know I’ll stumble, but I’ll pick myself back up and keep on trucking.

It can be so hard to keep a healthy lifestyle in college so major props to you for that! If you did it once, it can always happen again. Thanks for giving my blog a little love today! It’s always nice to see fellow Arizonans sharing a passion for food blogging!

Great site Amy! Stay focused and keep your mind positive and you will be able to do ANYTHING you set your mind to. Two years ago I started with a 1/2 Marathon, then I did a Marathon, then a Half Ironman and most recently an Ironman — who knows where your journey is going to take you! If you have any running questions or training questions let me know – you can hit me up on Twitter @trainerTRISH or on my blog http://www.beautifulbodybistro.com

Rock on and keep on trekking along!
