Two pronged attack. Ouch.

So remember, that one time, when I declared we would concentrate on eating dinner at home this week?

Yeah.  Well, that was only a guideline, a’ight?

I was enjoying a surprise phone call from my brother, Scott, after work, minding my own business.  While discussing the cutest dogs in the world, amongst other things, I heard Brian’s phone alert him to a text message.  Not out of the ordinary, so I didn’t pay much attention.

When I got off the phone, I had big plans to cook up some brussel sprouts and veggie kielbasa, quick-like before the hanger set in.  I was still in the green “safety” zone, but knew if I waited too much longer, we’d be going into the red – dangerous territory.

But to my surprise, I too, had a text message.

James and George had staged a two pronged call/text attack, enticing us with the idea of dining at Pita Jungle

Um… yeah, so really, it didn’t take much convincing.  Brian and I took one look at each other, put on our shoes and were out the door.  We were quick like bunnies.

From the very beginning (uh, 2 days ago), I’ve mentioned I’m trying a quasi-South Beach diet eating style and am avoiding most carbs for the next 2 weeks.  Quasi, in that, if I want to drink some wine with my friends, I’m going to.

So, bam, Pinot Grigio.  Yes please.

Sorry for the cell phone quality pictures.  I only had my… well… cell phone.  James, Jordan and I split this bottle of white, like ladies are wont to do.  Domestic bottles of beer for the 2 men at the table.

Hummus is best served shared.

If you eat the hummus at Pita Jungle, I find it best to go with the large hummus trio – original, roasted red pepper, and cilantro jalapeno.  I snagged the veggie garnish and avoided using any pita to shovel the goods in my mouth.  This hummus is so good, I could just spoon into my mouth.  Who am I kidding, I don’t even need a spoon.  Just my hands.  But I was in public, dining with friends, so I decided to play it cool, man.

For my entree, I went with another ‘starter’ on the menu, the falafel platter.  For a starter, this thing was uge.  Yes, uge.  Like huge, but not pronouncing the ‘h’.

Gigantic.  Its basically a falafel sandwich salad, without the pita.  It had the pickles, tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, topped with a drizzle of tahini.  Fantastical.  This is definitely in a close race with my favorite Lentil Fetoosh Salad (which, by the way, I have a recipe to recreate it at home).

I have plenty of leftovers for a hearty lunch tomorrow, high kick!

We made a quick stop back at James and Georges to say hello to our good friend Sid

What a mug.  Such a cutie pie.

I’m so happy tomorrow is Friday.  I’ve worked 12 days in a row, and I am banning myself from all things work this weekend.  Brian and I already have a big Saturday planned and maybe I’ll do a little gardening on Sunday.  Who knows? All I know is I don’t have to work!

Fist bump.
